According to harry clark the most important thing, when designing a garden, is its natural appearance, no matter how small the space.
Minutest details are just as important as its overall usability and the subdivision into harmoniously balanced areas.

The sources of inspiration reach from the mosaics of ancient roman villas to the monastery gardens of old Europe; from the venerable Chinese and Japanese garden art to the painting of old masters.

harry clark doesn’t plan his gardens for the very moment of handing them over to his clients, but with an eye on the future; how materials age and develop patina, how plants mature and rocks and stones get covered in lichen – all this makes a garden truly a living space.
